The Altiplano is grounded in agriculture with cereals, olives, almonds and livestock forming the economic bedrock of the area and the towns and villages of the countryside .There are however very few fences and the freedom to roam is almost universal. The low population density means that there is space for wildlife both winged and mammalian.

The house is a cave house so is unique in it's arrangements and architecture. Like all cave houses it moderates the outside temperature meaning that it is cool in summer and can be kept warm in winter with very low expenditure of energy. it has a A rating for energy efficiency. Moreover being on two floors natural circulation of air keeps the rooms fresh and avoids condensation without recourse to fans other than to cope with bathrooms and cooking.
The house is approached by a road which goes above the cave descends the hill and crosses in front of the house entrance. The entry to the cave is over the patio, enclosed by raised flower beds and having a storage shed to one side. The entrance lobby is split by a glazed partition and provides storage shelves hanging space and the downstairs bathroom's hot water tank. Moving through the partition brings us to a hallway with 3 exits.
