The shower room has a decent sized walk in shower, a pedestal toilet and a wash hand basin, with a mirrored cabinet installed. Above the sink there is plumbing and recess space for a washing machine.

A storage cupboard is directly above the washing machine area. The bathroom was recently renovated in white tiles from floor to ceiling and has terrazzo marble flooring. A window with a fly screen and shutter. Above the shower room is a storage space the whole size of the shower room and approx. 1 metre in height.

Leading out from the kitchen you enter the living room area, which is very large and has beautiful terrazzo flooring. There are two entrance doors to the living area, as it was previously two separate rooms (one of the doorways is used to house the fridge freezer, as it fits in there rather well).

The living area was rebuilt and renovated to make a large living area. The living area is central to the house which actually works very well, as in summer it is very cool during the hottest days, and then very warm in the winter months. it has two ceiling light fittings which serve very bright light and makes for a very comfortable bright living space.

The larger main bedroom has a large fitted wardrobe from ceiling to the floor, for optimal storage space. Also, one large window and beautiful wooden French doors leading out to the balcony; The floor has terrazzo marble tiles.



The second bedroom has traditional handmade tiles from the 1960s on the floor, in a chequered design. Each tile is uniquely handmade, which makes it even more beautiful. Also, in the second bedroom there is a large glass door leading out to the balcony.

The balcony stretches out across the whole length of the front of the house. it has a wonderful view of the little church across the street, and over the buildings towards the mountains at each side and you can even see the Spili Monastery in the distance.

This property is not central to the village (5 minutes' walk into the village) which means this property is in a very pleasant quieter area, just before you leave the village, the property is above the last taverna (Sideradiko) on the left; it take us a few minutes' walk to reach the centre of the village.

There is plenty of street parking available 24/7. The people living within this community are very friendly and welcoming.

Spili is well known for its Lion Fountains and its natural spring mountain water. You can drink the organic fresh water from the taps here (which saves you a fortune and also saves you from carrying bottled water home). Spili is centrally located in Crete and perfect for exploring the island.



The house is located next to the (Kedros mountains) and you can have the pleasure of going in either direction, in order to visit some of the most beautiful beaches on Crete; it is only a 20 minute drive to the north of the island (Rethymno) and 20 minutes to the south of the island.



This property is situated in a great spot to enjoy your holiday, if you want to explore the west of Crete (Chania) or the east (Heraklion and Lasithi) from this perfect central location.

There is also a very dependable and regular bus service which can also be of used. You will find the bus stop directly in front of the taverna.



The walls are 21 inches thick which keeps the house very cool in the summer. There are fly screens on all windows at the front of the house, so you can open the windows without the worry of flying insects.

There is also wifi connection available, portable air conditioning and Solar water heater on the roof.

There is a market every Friday in the huge parking lot, selling clothes, herbs, honey, raki fruits, vegetables and jewellery. There is also Maravel gardens shop, that produces everything from their herb gardens, which are very famous, and they do tours and teach you how to make things from herbs and how to use them for medicinal purposes.

Directly across the street from this house is a large warehouse that sells Calor gas bottles and even delivers them to your door for free. They also sell pet food and dog collars and all sorts of pet products and food for farm animals, and many other things you may need.

A 2 minutes' walk away is the 24-hour medical centre, where they will attend to your every need and they also provide dental treatments, x rays and also do blood tests. its full of qualified doctors and assistants who are always very helpful and kind. At the bottom of the road near the medical centre is a fantastic pharmacy. There are two wonderful butchers, one living very close.

About the Area:

Located around 28km south-east of Rethymno, in the province of Agios Vassilios, is the small, exceptionally pretty village of Spili. This beautiful mountain village, with a population of approx. 800 inhabitants, stands at an altitude of 430km.

The area is green and lush with many little mountain streams and plenty of trees. in the village square with its shade from plane trees, are marble fountains with sculptured lions' heads that provide drinking water from the clear, refreshing rivers of the Psiloritis Mountain. From the square, narrow lanes lead up to the neighbourhoods of the village. Here can be seen the traditional styled houses with flower-filled gardens and amazing views. There are three churches of interest: The church of Agia Theodori; the church of Agios Georgios and the church of the Metamorphosis of the Sotira (Saviour).

spili fountainsinside these churches are some wonderful examples of wall frescoes and religious icons. in the church of Agios Georgios, for example, there is a unique wall painting which represents the Holy Trinity, where the Holy Ghost is represented as a dove flying out of the lips of God. The road from Spili continues towards Agia Galini which has a fine beach and was one of the first tourist resorts to be developed in Crete. Gorges of incredible magnificence criss-cross the mountains of the region. Westwards on the road into Spili, is the village of Koxare with 333 inhabitants. Koxare became famous because of the impressive ravine of Kourtaliotis, which is some 3km long and ends at the famous Preveli Lagoon.

The impressive, narrow ravine has a wild beauty and its barren slopes are full of waterfalls and caves. When the wind blows, one hears sounds like clapping of the hands kourtala as it is called in the local dialect. in the ravine there is a further church, the church of Agios Nicholaos. From Spili it is also very easy to visit the Skisma Cave.
