The commune is located in the center of the county, on the left bank of the Mostiștea river and on the banks of its tributary, Argova . it is crossed by the county road DJ303, which leads to the northwest to Gurbănești , Sărulești and Tămădău Mare (where it ends in DN3 ), and to the south to Frăsinet and Manăstirea (where it ends in DN31). The main economic and social centres of the county are: Călărașiul (the largest financial, social, cultural and administrative centre in the county), Oltenița and Lehliu Gară. The economy of Calarasi suffered a setback between 1989 and 2000 due to the bankruptcy of two large industrial units of the county ( Navol Oltenița and Siderca Călărași). Between 2000 and 2005 the economy of Calarasi stabilized by the mass departure of the labor force in italy and Spain and by the opening of lohn garment factories.
